This bat was in a cavity in a tree. One of the commonest bats found in the UK. Eats small insects. Weighs about 5 grams. Scientific name is Pipistrelle pipistrellus.
This bat was in an Addit (horizontal or nearly horizontal passage to an underground mine). Myotis is a genus of small, insectivorous bats represented by several species in the UK, including Natterer’s, Daubenton’s, Whiskered, Brandt’s, Bechstein’s, and Alcathoe bats. Known for their fast, fluttering flight, they roost in trees, buildings, and bat boxes, and are protected under UK law.
This bat was in a building, in torpor (a state of lowered body temperature and metabolic activity). Only the tragus visible (pointed inner lobe of the ear). Medium sized, with ears nearly as long as its body. Scientific name is Plecotus auritus.
